These questions are the ones all the major wedding blogs and magazines suggest you ask your potential wedding photographer. Some of them are informative, and some of them are lousy, but we would be careless wedding photographers if we didn’t make sure they were answered for you.
Q: What primary photographic style do you identify with?
A: Our wedding photography is a fusion of timeless artistic portraits, candid moments, and editorial flair. We specialize in documentary-style wedding photography (also known as photojournalism), contemporary portraiture, and fine art. We believe in capturing the essence of your wedding day in a way that will stand the test of time. Whether it’s for a traditional wedding or an elopement, our goal is to give you images that feel authentic, elegant, and breathtaking.
Q: How long have you been shooting weddings? How many weddings have you photographed?
A: We have been photographing weddings since 2021, with over 50 weddings as lead photographers, and many more as a second photographers. About one-third of those weddings have been LGBTQ+ celebrations, reflecting my commitment to inclusivity and capturing love in all its forms.
Q: What do your wedding photography collections include?
A: Each wedding photography package includes professionally edited, high-resolution digital files delivered in a gorgeous online gallery. Additional options include engagement sessions, rehearsal dinner coverage, extra photographers, heirloom wedding albums, prints, gallery wraps, acrylic prints, and thank-you cards. Dream big—let me know what you envision, and I’ll help bring it to life.
Q: Do you offer retouching, color adjustment, or other corrective services? Are those included or an additional charge?
A: All images in your collection are professionally color balanced, exposure corrected, and cropped as needed. Portraits of the couple receive minor blemish removal. For additional extensive editing (e.g., skin smoothing, advanced retouching), there may be an additional charge per image.
Q: Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
A: Yes, we’re well-versed in all types of lighting conditions. Whether we’re using natural light or setting up artificial lighting, we adapt quickly to ensure the best possible photos. We’re all about capturing the magic of the moment, no matter the light!
Q: How many photographers do you work with?
A: Typically, we work solo since most weddings don’t require more than 2 photographers. However, if your wedding has more than 150 guests or multiple locations, we have a team of experienced photographers, content creators and videographers we can bring on to ensure every moment is captured.
Q: Do you guarantee your presence at the actual wedding?
A: Absolutely! We wouldn’t miss your wedding for the world!
Q: Do you have insurance?
A: Yes! We carry full liability insurance. Many venues require vendors to have insurance, and we’re fully covered for peace of mind.
Q: Do you have a replacement wedding photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
A: Yes, we have a trusted team of experienced photographers who can step in if necessary. This ensures that your wedding is always covered by seasoned professionals.
Q: What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that we provide your meal?
A: We usually take our break during dinner. People do not normally prefer photos of themselves chewing, so this is the perfect time to break. We do not require seating with guests. As a matter of fact we prefer a quiet corner or room to recharge our camera batteries and grab a bite to eat. Most clients feed us exactly what their guests eat, but we are thankful for our vendor meals as well.
Q: Do you charge for travel?
A: There are no additional travel fees for wedding travel in Kansas or Missouri. For states outside of those areas, there may be fees depending on how far in advance you book your date. Airline travel has become problematic since the pandemic, as you know. Because your wedding date is so important, we eliminate as much risk as possible and only fly with the major airlines (Delta, United, American, etc), arriving at every destination one to two days in advance. We cover the first night in a hotel and only charge lodging if your wedding requires us to be there for more than 1 night.
Q: How soon after our wedding will our proofs be ready?
A: Within two or three days of your wedding, we will send you a sneak peek. About six weeks after that your private gallery will be available online. You can download high resolution files for printing or web-sized files for posting.
Q: Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
A: Yes, we retain the copyright to all the images, but we allow unlimited personal use and printing rights for your photos.
Q: Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
A: We typically ask for permission to publish images, but we’re always respectful of your privacy. If you prefer no publication, we can make that arrangement.
Q: What kind of wedding albums do you offer?
A: Wedding albums are one of our favorite aspects of the process. We offer premium, lay-flat albums with leather or silk bindings. The pages are printed on archival-quality paper and flush-mounted. Reach out, and we can meet for coffee to see these gorgeous albums in person!
Q: When will we get our wedding album?
A: Wedding albums are ordered immediately upon your final approval and generally arrive 2-4 months after that. Because all wedding albums are hand made, the amount of time to complete them can vary, but it’s sooooo worth the wait!
